Heinz Vinegar Tips

Looking for a delicious salad starter? Try the classic and easy to prepare Heinz® Vinaigrette dressing for homemade dressing and condiments.

Balsamic Blue Cheese Dressing

Ingredients:
1/4 cup Heinz® Balsamic Vinegar
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
dash hot pepper sauce
1/2 cup olive or vegetable oil
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese

Instructions:
In small bowl, combine Heinz® Balsamic Vinegar, dried oregano leaves, salt, pepper and dash hot pepper sauce. Slowly whisk in olive or vegetable oil; stir in crumbled blue cheese. Use as a dressing for sliced tomatoes and onion on Bibb or Boston lettuce or mixed green salads. Makes 1 cup.

Berry Vinaigrette

A light and refreshing dressing. Also a wonderful accompaniment to grilled salmon or chicken. Can be made a day in advance

Ingredients:
2/3 cup Heinz® Apple Cider Vinegar**
1/4 cup sugar**
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 cups cut berries (raspberries, strawberries or blackberries)

Instructions:
Whisk all ingredients together in a medium bowl. Cover and store in refrigerator. Serve at room temperature. Can be made a day in advance. **If preferred: Replace with Heinz® Distilled White Vinegar Use 1/3 cup of sugar instead of 1/4 cup Makes about 2 cups Prep Time: 5 minutes.

Dieters Delightful Dressing

Ingredients:
1/4 cup Heinz® Distilled White Vinegar
1 small onion, quartered
1 1/2 cups low-fat cottage cheese
dash salt
dash pepper

Instructions:
Place vinegar and onion in a blender container; blend. Add cottage cheese, salt and pepper: blend at high speed until mixture is smooth. Transfer to bowl. Cover: chill to blend flavors. Serve over sliced tomatoes. Makes about 2 cups

Easy Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

Ingredients:
3/4 cup olive or vegetable oil
1/4 cup Heinz® Salad Vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar

For variety, add any of the following:
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup sliced green onions
2 teaspoons poppy or sesame seeds

Instructions:
In small jar or blender container, combine all ingredients; mix well. Refrigerate. Serve over salad greens.

Heinz® Vinaigrette Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cup Heinz® Distilled White Vinegar (or other specialty Heinz vinegars…)
1 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
2 teaspoons fresh dill or 1 teaspoon dried dill*

Instructions:
Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl or combine in jar and shake vigorously. Makes 2 cups. *If used as marinade for beef, chicken or pork, substitute tarragon leaves in place of dill.

Marinated Italian Herb Dressing

Ingredients:
2/3 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup Heinz® Wine or Distilled White Vinegar
1 clove garlic, split
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Instructions:
Combine ingredients in jar. Cover; shake vigorously. Chill to blend flavors. Remove garlic; shake again before serving over tossed green salads. Makes 1 cup

Spicy Mustard Sauce

Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup ground mustard (1.75 ounces)
1 cup Heinz® Apple Cider Vinegar
3 eggs beaten
1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:
Combine sugar and mustard in a saucepan. Mix until ingredients are well blended and no lumps remain. Add remaining ingredients. Cook over medium-low heat for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring constantly with a wire whisk until thickened. Serve warm or chilled on cold cuts, ham, beef, chicken, chicken nuggets, and egg rolls, or as a condiment for sandwiches. Makes 2 cups. Note: For a milder flavor, use 1/4 cup ground mustard.

Tangy Cucumber Dressing

Ingredients:
1 cup dairy sour cream
2 tablespoons Heinz® Apple Cider Vinegar
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup diced peeled cucumber

Instructions:
Combine ingredients. Cover; chill to blend flavors.
Serve over tomato and lettuce salads, sliced chicken or chilled salmon. Makes 1 1/2 cups.
